40 weeks

It's her due date, and time for a birth announcement. Now that the babe has been in the world for a month, I suppose I can go back to sporadic blogging to mark my lovely yet repetitive mat-leave days. Medical rotation rants to return in 11 months.

Birth. LittleM. Nov 5. @35+5/7. Largish abruptio. Smallish spawnlet. Lots of good luck and loving arms. Compassion and time from my midwives, and kindness from the family docs I work with - despite attempting to exsanguinate on their lovely carpet. Efficient obstetricians and pediatricians who quickly did what needed doing to make sure that we are both not dead. With the small exception of slightly clueless paramedics, everything that could have gone right did.

I still can't sit up properly, LittleE is acting out some, LittleM looks okay, and I am periodically snowed by the worry that her birth may have left her with a lifetime of difficulties. Routine is beginning to resurface in our house, and i am finally able to think, and to type (one-handedly).

I am so grateful for my extended queer relations and chosen family. For people who cooked and cleaned and corralled LittleE for 4 days while I was too anemic to do much of anything. For those who are braving the creation of a new kind of family. For everyone who dropped off food or did dishes. For the videos of extinct animals. For folks who played tea party, and took the spawn out for a while in the name of sanity for the groan-ups. For celebrating the small and new. For bringing your queer, poly, kinky, transgressively gendered selves to this small city and into the lives of these two kids.

I am so blessed.
