rainbow juice and cookies

We went to the lesbian moms/Papadaddy holiday party today. I just sort of ran in and left again, but it was a great time while i was there. I often feel like most of the people i know are queer positive, but that i don't know very many who are actually queer. Then i go to events like this and realise it's just that most of us don't share that information in casual contexts. There were at least three instances of "oh i *thought* you looked familiar" which was pretty neat.

I also loved that there were not just lesbians there! Sperm donors, wannaDaddies, foster papas, trans-parents, adoptive gay dads. It felt like someone just opened the door and let in the rest of our families, who had always been in our lives, but had to stay away from these events before. It made for quite a crowd, and makes me want to invite extended queer kin next time!

Having a full-time kid has made me value this group lots more. It is nice to bring the girls to events so that they can meet other kids with queer adults in their lives, but it feels so much more vital that littleE gets to be in a space with other kids who are fully implicated in queer culture, not just weekend visitors. I am double glad that a group like this exists for him.
Yet another reason that it's going to be hard or impossible to leave this town when i finish school...
